Gorilla Glass is great for the former but not so great for the latter. Tempered glass screen protectors are, as you said, designed to shatter. It'll absorb as much energy as possible while keeping it away from your precious screen. It's easier and less costly to replace a broken glass screen protector than a broken screen.
No matter what you do, don’t remove the entire protective sheet from the screen protector before applying it, and do the whole thing upside down. that is, find the side normally market “1” and pull off a few centimeters of the protective sheet while holding the screen protector with the 1-side facing down.
Solid meh for me. S21U since launch and the screen is all scratched up with tiny but permanent micro scratches. Never dropped, always in a case. Seems to scratch extremely easily.
