For farming easier content, such as doing bounties, split farming is just much more efficient than solo farming can ever hope to achieve. Each class has multiple builds that have the potential to clear a Greater Rift Level 100 or higher while solo, which is many magnitudes harder than enemies in a 4-man Torment 16 group. As was mentioned, pre synergies the game was definitely harder even in LoD. Classic before LoD was definitely harder as well. The earlier patches fixed a lot of balancing issues in my opinion. I remember playing my necro in a1 and getting smoked by the goatmen in classic.
They feel like two different but similar games. Diablo 1 is all about being methodical, carefully choosing spots to save, checking corners, and playing with deliberate crowd control tactics. But I also like zipping around and destroying things en masse in Diablo 2. They're both satisfying to play in their own ways.
Diablo 3 was fun enough at launch but since all of the patches I am enjoying Diablo 3 more than any other action RPG released up until this date. The only game that comes close is Torchlight 2. If you like eye candy this game is beautiful, lots of items, lots of skill combinations and worth the $20 if you are looking for another Action RPG to play.
